Introduction
The Department of Applied Studies offers the Bachelor of Applied Studies to encourage adults to obtain a bachelor’s degree. A student may begin a degree program at the entry level or a student may be able to combine previous college experience with knowledge obtained outside the classroom to form a foundation for degree completion. Special efforts are made to incorporate adult learners into the university environment.
Special off-campus offerings, Study Abroad activities or intercollegiate courses will be subject to additional costs and require an advisor’s approval.
During the first semester of course work, each student is enrolled in APST 101 Adult Learning Theory, a course that acquaints students with ACU’s academic environment and establishes rapport among the entering cohort group. To remain in the BAS program, a student may not withdraw from this course without approval from the department. Choosing to withdraw without approval constitutes withdrawal from the program.
- Minimum age of 25.
- Minimum of two years work or volunteer experience.
- Interview with the BAS advisor.
- Bachelor of Applied Studies Application and non-refundable application fee.
- Satisfactory official transcripts of all previous college work. A high school transcript is required if fewer than 30 college semester hours have been earned.
- A two-page, typed statement of purpose.
- Two letters of recommendation from non-family members (one personal, one academic or job-related).
- Without an associate degree or with fewer than 64 acceptable college semester hours, appropriate test scores (e.g., SAT, ACT, COMPASS, WAIS, TONI).
