THE MISSION

WHAT: Volunteers are need to tutor kids who are struggling in math and reading. They need help with homework and someone to listen to them read.
DATE: Mondays
TIME: 5:30-6:30 p.m. (AFTERNOON)
LOCATION: First United Methodist Church, 202 Butternut St.

NOTE: This is a joint program between Mission Abilene and the First Methodist Church of Abilene.

 

AFTERSCHOOL READING GROUP

WHAT: Read to/with Taylor Elementary School students.
DATE: Monday - Thursday
TIME: 3:15 - 4:30 p.m. (AFTERNOON)
LOCATION: University Church of Christ, across the street from Sewell Theater, use south entrance.

NOTE: This is a great opportunity for students without personal transportation. Volunteers can choose one or more days a week to come.

 

INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE (IRC)

WHAT:  Work with refugees who recently moved to the U.S., teaching English, helping with homework, and mentoring.

DATE & TIME:  Flexible, call for appointment.
LOCATION: Around the city of Abilene

NOTE:  Knowing French, Russian and/or Turkish languages helpful but not necessary in order to volunteer.

PREGNANCY COUNSELING SERVICES OF ABILENE

WHAT:  Counsel women in crisis pregnancy (training is required); Also, can help keep donation room clean, data entry from client intake sheets, market the center, help with mailouts, etc.
DATE:  Any DAY, Monday - Friday
TIME:  Anytime between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
LOCATION:  1317 North 8th St., Suite 100
