WHAT:  Help provide "at-risk" students at two elementary, two middle schools, and two high schools in Abilene with a personal relationship (mentor) with a caring adult, tutoring, and enrichment activities.  We serve over 800 students in AISD school district to help them succeed in school and prepare for life.

TIME:  Sometime during the regular school day/some after school during the regular school year.  Anytime between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. during our summer program.

RESPITE PROGRAM

WHAT:  RESPITE is an essential part of the overall support families need by offering parents a temporary break from the daily routine and stress by supplying their children (medically fragile and their siblings) with healthy meals, apporopriate activities, free nursing, free daycare, and an environment in which they can feel and be normal. 
WHAT:  Various tasks, coordinating games, playing with kids, serving food or snacks, etc.
DATE:  Fridays and/or Saturdays (WEEKEND)
TIME:  6 - 9 p.m. (NIGHT)
LOCATION:  The locations will vary depending on what the families need.

UNITED WAY OF ABILENE / BORN LEARNING PROGRAM

WHAT:  Assist in the distribution of materials, interact with children at immunization fairs, family events, and other programs, thereby modeling Born Learning for the caregivers.

LOCATION:   Locations vary, but have included:  Abilene Civic Center, Nelson Park, schools, and the Abilene Public Library

YMCA OF ABILENE

WHAT: Drivers (over 21) to pick up children from local schools in the YMCA vans and transport them to the site. Participate and create activities for the children to participate in. Fill out daily assessment sheets of children's behavior. Take children home in YMCA vans.
