Information for Speech Contestants:
Each school with a regional meet contestant in any individual event or debate must provide a judge for that event and or debate. Each school must provide a judged for each event area in which that school competes. If a school has a debater, they must provide a debate judge. If a school has a contestant in Persuasive or Informative Speaking, they must provide an extemporaneous judge. If a school has a contestant in Poetry or Prose, they must provide an interpretation judge. One judge has can cover multiple areas if the schedule and the judge’s expertise meets the need.
NOTE: Contestants from schools not providing judges will not be allowed to participate in regional.
For each round of competition all judges not schedule will be considered on Stand By until they are released. They will be released when all rounds are covered. Judges should report to the lobby of the Education Building to receive judging assignments and return ballots.

GRADING |

Procedure |
Following each event, the contest director will tabulate results in a designated grading room separate from the contest room. |
|
Grading Assistants |
Team sponsors will assist in grading in the following events: Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Number Sense, Science, Spelling/Vocabulary, Social Studies, Literary Criticism, Accounting, and Mathematics. |

Verification Period |
The contest director will remain in the grading room for a short period of time to answer questions concerning tabulations and to verify results. Questions addressed to anyone other than the appropriate contest director at any other time than the verification period will be disregarded . |

Location |
Location of grading room will be posted on the door of each contest room or announced before contest. |

Verification/Awards |
Students, coaches, and/or other school officials are urged to attend all verification periods and awards meeting. Regional meet directors are under no obligation to contact winners who fail to attend with results and winner's packets. Awards will be mailed to winners as a courtesy. |

Winners packets |
Information regarding the 2008 UIL Academic State Meet is posted on the UIL web site at www.uil.utexas.edu. Information packets will not be mailed to schools or handed out during the regional meet verification meetings or awards ceremonies. Coaches and contestant must go to the UIL web site for tentative schedule, UT parking, UT campus map and other vital State Meet information. Responsibilities for knowing times, dates and sites of State Meet events rests solely with coaches and contestants. |

Official Results |
Following the question period, the official results will be delivered to the Regional Director's headquarters in the Education Building. |

Posting |
Individual results will be posted in headquarters as soon as possible. Team points will be kept on a results board. |
|
Awards |
Contestants or a representative may pick up medals and winner's packets at headquarters immediately after results arrive. Awards will not be released without a signature. |
|
Contest Packets |
Schools should pick up tests and critiques at headquarters on the day of the contest. |
