While the Residual ACT can be used for course placement and freshmen scholarships, students must have at least one official ACT or SAT writing score for admissions decisions. Please be aware, the Residual ACT at ACU does not offer the writing section. Therefore, you must take at least one national test with an essay.

Differences Between the National and Residual ACT:

  • Residual ACT is only valid at ACU. It will not transfer to other schools.
  • We can score the Residual ACT on-site, so you will receive your results immediately following the test.
  • There is no essay section on ACU's Residual ACT.
  • You will not be permitted to write in your test book. However, scratch paper will be provided.
  • A student cannot retake the Residual ACT at any campus until a full 60 days has elapsed from the previous administration. You must wait until at least day 61 before you are eligible to retest. Please plan your testing schedule accordingly. There is no wait period between a National ACT and a Residual ACT.
  • Athletes: The Residual ACT does not fulfill NCAA requirements for eligibility. Students  wishing to compete in athletics at ACU must take at least one National ACT or SAT in order to fulfill NCAA eligibility requirements. For more information, contact ACU Athletics.
