What Does Wellness Mean?
In today’s fast paced world, wellness means more to people than just eating right and exercising. It’s an ongoing collection of skills that help balance almost every aspect of life. It's also about meeting the needs of family and friends while finding time for yourself; understanding others' expectations while exploring your own ambitions; challenging long-held beliefs while forging new possibilities.
We hope this information the information that follows serves as a catalyst for spreading the important benefits of wellness on campus.
The Nine Dimensions of Wellness
Wellness is a framework that can be used in many ways to help us organize, understand, and balance our own human growth and development. Everything we do, every decision we make, every thought we think, and every attitude and belief we hold fits into this framework made up of nine basic concepts:
- Physical Wellness
- Emotional Wellness
- Social Wellness
- Intellectual Wellness
- Financial Wellness
- Spiritual Wellness
- Environmental Wellness
- Aesthetic Wellness
- Career Wellness
Wellness is:
- A direction in which by its nature, moves us toward a more proactive, responsible and healthier existence.
- The integration of the body, mind, and spirit.
- The loving acceptance of ourselves today and the exciting free search for who we choose to become tomorrow.
- Choice living; a compilation of the daily decisions we make that lead us to that person we choose to become.
