How do I find out who my advisor is?
If you are an incoming student, you will be assigned an advisor during the Passport session that you attend in the summer.
If you are a current student, have not declared a major, and are currently enrolled in University Seminar, your U100 instructor is your advisor for the following semester's classes.
If you have not declared a major and are not currently enrolled in U100, contact the Office of Career and Academic Development (325-674-6400) and they will refer you to your advisor.
If you have declared a major, contact the department that offers your major and they will refer you to your advisor.
If I take a class that is required for a specific major and then change my major, will I have wasted that class and spent all that time and money for nothing?
Not at all. Built into every degree plan, regardless of the major, is a set of electives that you will need to take. Electives can be used for any class you desire to enroll in, whether it is related to your major or minor or not. Most majors have room for 7 to 12 hours of these electives which will need to be used in order to complete your degree requirements. Any classes that you have taken in the past or will possibly take in the future that do not directly fulfill the specific course requirements for your major can be used to fill these elective hours.
How to I declare a major or change my current major?
To declare or change a major, you will need to complete a "Change of Program" form, which can be obtained from your current advisor.
