Milonga

Purpose

To educate ourselves and others in the history, culture, and mainly performance of different styles of Latin Dancing. Our main dance goals will primarily be focused on Salsa, Mambo, Cha-cha, Tango and Rumba.

History

Milonga began as an offshoot of Hispanos Unidos in the fall of 2006 as members who were interested in learning the finer points and culture of Latin Dances.  Yet interest in learning these cultural dances was so large that ACU Students outside of Hispanos Unidos began to participate in weekly meetings. However, at the time the group had no leadership structure and was not recognized as an on campus organization.  So, in the August of 2007 Darrien Grays (a major supporter) found sponsors willing to support the group and chartered the group Milonga Latin Dance as a performance group. Milonga Latin Dance was then added under the Office of Multicultural Enrichment in August of 2008 because of the cultural background of the organization.
