About Legal Services at ACU
The mission of the Office of Legal Services is to serve the university by advising about compliance with applicable laws and policies, minimizing legal risks and costs, facilitating transactions, and providing legal advocacy on behalf of the university.
Slade Sullivan, Esq.
Slade directs ACU's Office of Legal Services. He serves as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees and provides legal counsel to the President, the Board of Trustees and ACU's senior academic and administrative officers. He also presides over the Office of Risk Management and advises on the legal implications of University policy and decision-making. Before coming to ACU, he worked for Thompson & Knight, LLP, in Dallas in the taxation, estate planning, and exempt organizations practice groups. He received his B.S. and M.A. in Human Communication from Abilene Christian University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. His professional associations include: The Texas State Bar Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and United Educators.
Christopher Riley, Esq.
Associate General Counsel
Chris is responsible for providing legal services and advice to administrative and educational departments on a wide-variety of topics including but not limited to contract review, federal and state regulatory compliance, and other related matters. Before coming to ACU, Chris served as a Briefing Attorney at the Court of Appeals for the Second District of Texas and worked as an Associate Attorney at Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff, and Miller in Fort Worth. He received his B.S. in Political Science from Abilene Christian University and his J.D. from Texas Tech Law School. His professional associations include: the Texas State Bar Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Alliance Defense Fund.
