Rosters

  1. The number of names on a roster in unlimited.
  2. No one may play unless listed on the roster with I.D. number and signature.
  3. A team forfeits any game(s) in which an unlisted player participates.
  4. Additional names may be added to a roster during the first game only.
  5. Any team that forfeits (2) two games will be dropped from competition.

Eligibility

  1. Current member of the ACU volleyball team are ineligible to compete.
  2. Competing with an ineligible player will result in a forfeit and/or diqualification. Consult the intrumural handbook for more detailed information concerning player eligibility.

Playing Rules

Standard collegiate volleyball rules will be observed with the exceptions below: 

  1. The five minute forfeit rule will be enforced.
  2. A minimum of 5 players are needed to start a game.
  3. Matches consist of the best (2) out of (3) games to (15) points.  Must win be (2) points.
  4. A ball that hits the ceiling shall be considered live unless it strikes the ceiling on a third hit or it passed over the net.
  5. A ball that hits the basketball goals will be considered a dead ball.  The referee will award a replay if the ball could have been played had the goal not been in the way.  A point or side out will be awarded if the referee deems the ball unplayable.
  6. A side out or point is awarded if any part of the body except for loose hair brushes against the net.
  7. An offensive or defensive player may break the plane of the net to block or attack the ball only after the ball has broken the plane.
  8. A back row player cannot attack or block the ball unless he/she is behind the 10-foot attack line.  
  9. Players must rotate clockwise and be in proper rotation when the ball is served.
  10. Each team is allowed two 30 second time outs per game (time outs do not carry over to the next game).
  11. Thirty five minutes in to the match, rally scoring will be adopted.
  12. Any abuse of an official is grounds for ejection.
  13. Teams will change sides after games one and two, and after a team reaches 7 points in the third game.

Equipment

  1. One game ball will be provided.  If your team wishes to “warm up”, you should bring volleyballs with you.
  2. Shoes that leave black marks on the floor are prohibited.

Injuries

All injuries must be reported to an Intramural worker immediately.  Each Participant is financially responsible for care of personal injury, therefore the Intramural Department urges all participants to either purchase student insurance offered by the school or have coverage by a private policy.  The Intramural Sports Department and Abilene Christian University will not be held responsible for accidents.  You play at your own risk!

Awards

Championship T-shirt will be awarded to the champions in each division.
