Direct Deposit

Why are Student Employees paid by Direct Deposit?

ACU has successfully provided Direct Deposit for Faculty & Staff for over 10 years. We are delighted to offer Direct Deposit to Student Employees. Students who are employed by ACU will need to sign up for Direct Deposit in the Human Resources office, AD 213.

Why is Direct Deposit so great?

  1. Direct Deposit provides a reduction in Error Rate, meaning, employees have less problems on payday.
  2. We can save the Rainforest. Well, ok, maybe not the whole rainforest, but sending 850 student checks twice a week requires a lot of paper.
  3. Direct Deposit gives ACU a way to pay employees faster, cheaper, and more efficiently.

With Direct Deposit there is no need for mailing paychecks home on breaks, holding checks in departments until employees are able to pick them up, no confusion as to where the check went if employees work in multiple locations, etc; and from a labor stand point Direct Deposit provides cost savings for the university.

Students who have not enrolled in Direct Deposit must bring a picture ID & pick up their checks in Human Resources Office, AD 213, on payday, and will be required to sign up for Direct Deposit at that time.

Students who do not have a checking account can sign up in our office for a free account with First Financial Bank.

Frequently Asked Direct Deposit Questions

1.  When will my direct deposit start?
For security reasons and to ensure that your funds are deposited appropriately, we do a testing instance when you first authorize us to Direct Deposit your funds. (Employees who bank at First Financial Bank do not require a testing instance.) In light of this, your first check may be a paper check. Then the next paycheck will be direct deposited.

2.  What do I do if my bank is not located in Abilene?
We can direct deposit your paycheck into almost any type of bank. We will check with your home bank when we do a testing instance before we actually transmit the funds.

3. What if I don't have a bank account?
There are three banks that offer free checking account to students. You can sign up in our office for a free account with First Financial Bank.

4. What if I feel I can't participate in Direct Deposit?
All students who work for ACU will need to sign up for Direct Deposit. This is the method ACU uses for processing student pay.

5. Is Direct Deposit legal?
Yes. The university's legal counsel has reviewed the Texas Pay Day law, and it is legal to pay employees by Direct Deposit with written authorization.
