The Counseling Center is committed to providing mental health care, spiritual guidance, consultation and education to students, faculty, staff, and dependents of Abilene Christian University.
The qualified staff of the University Counseling Center offers the following services to ACU students, faculty, staff and their dependents:

What is counseling?
Simply stated, counseling is any relationship in which one person is helping another person to better understand and work through a problem. The staff at the ACU Counseling Center are different from others who may offer counseling because of their extensive training in psychology and human behavior. They have a broad range of experience in developing "helping relationships" and working with many different situations.
What can I expect from counseling?
For many people, making the decision to seek counseling can be extremely difficult. Going to the initial appointment might be anxiety provoking because of the struggles you plan to address. However, counseling is for anyone who needs someone to listen, someone to provide guidance, or someone to encourage. Your counselor work to meet you where you are with openness, empathy, and a willingness to help you navigate the challenges you are facing.
What is my role in counseling?
Your role in counseling will include be open, collaborative, and present with your counselor. Your counselor might encourage you to shift your perspective or try a new way of coping with a problem. An open mind and a willingness to work with your counselor will allow you to achieve the desired changes or goals you have set for yourself. Your collaboration with your counselor will provide you the best opportunity to get the most out of counseling.
How can counseling help?
What is special about counseling is that it can be tailored to everyone based on a person’s individual uniqueness. Counseling can provide a confidential and non-judgemental environment with a professional who will listen to you and walk alongside you. It provides you a trustworthy relationship that will help you navigate through your struggles so that you do not have feel alone. It can provide tools and skills to help you reach your goals and enrich your life in positive ways.
How much will it cost?
Each 50 minute counseling session costs $20. Payment is due at time of service. Clients have the option of paying by cash, check, credit or debit card, or charging their ACU Banner account.
How do I get started with counseling?
If you are interested in receiving counseling services, either come by our office on the north west corner of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, next door to the Teague Center, and fill out an online intake form. If you are using a computer on campus, click here to complete the intake. You should receive an email from our director within 1-2 working days with an appointment time with one of our counselors.
Initial appointments can be scheduled by coming by our office in the Medical and Counseling Care Center, and filling out an intake on one of our iPads. You also have the option of filling out the online intake form. If you are on campus and on the ACU network.
Open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed evenings and weekends and most major holidays.
Summer Hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
