Alzheimer's Association-North Central Texas Chapter

What: The Alzheimer's Association has two main fundraisers each year where we could use volunteers: 

  • Walk to End Alzheimer's, Saturday, September 21, 2013  7 a.m. - Noon
  • Steppin' Out for Memories, Saturday, March 22, 2014, 6 - 11 p.m.

Chisholm House

What: Volunteers are needed to help with daily activities that have been organized by the staff at Chisholm House. This could involve playing board games, arts and crafts, and helping with a walking club. For some of these tasks you may be asked to lead a group or just simply work along side a staff coordinator.

Friends for Life

What: We need volunteers to help elderly or disabled persons. Nursing Homes: visitation, play games, read to the blind, work puzzles, arts and crafts, special holiday recognition, entertainment (musical programs), and Gifts for Grannies and Grandpas at Christmas. Independent Living: mow yards, minor household repairs, change light bulbs, grocery shop, take a senior to the doctor or to run errands.

Time: Days, early evening, or weekends.

Meals on Wheels Plus

What: We need volunteers to deliver meals to the elderly and medically needy in the Abilene area as well as volunteers in our kitchen.

University Place Retirement

What: Volunteers are needed that have a friendly personality and interest in speaking with and helping older adults. Volunteers are needed to assist the activities director with various tasks throughout the week and sometimes on weekends. Contact Haley for more information.

Wisteria Place Assisted Living/Alzheimer's

What: Volunteers are needed to spend time with the residents at the home. They would like anyone who is willing to come and spend one-on-one time or lead a group activity with the residents. They love exercise, Bingo, board/card games, movies, and gardening. If you are willing to volunteer but are in need of transportation, please contact Wisteria to set up arrangements.
