What kind of an ACU Mission-keeper will you be?
This hauntingly-simple question highlights the invitation posed by the Center for Christian Service and Leadership to involve yourself in our distinctive approach to Christ-centered leadership development. Instead of paying lip service to leading in the example of Jesus, ACU students and their faculty/staff mentors are challenged to learn and practice the leadership style of Jesus…in the words of Henri Nouwen, “from solitude to community to ministry”. The foundation for ACU’s co-curricular leadership development is Christ-seeking first that leads students into vibrant Christian community second which prepares and empowers them for living out their calling (ministry) in life and career third. This simple but bold model for a leadership lifestyle, when operationalized as the foundation for our leadership initiatives and experiences, transforms the ACU community with its Christ-centered focus. Why? How? This approach is opposite of the way many people approach leadership. Instead of “filling their plates” with activities and involvement first, ACU students and faculty/staff mentors think critically and reflect first, seeking their identity in Christ that leads into vital Christian community before launching into experiences that challenge their faith and utilize their God-given strengths and talents.
