Accident and Incident Reporting
All injuries, incidents, accidents, sprains, or strains (no matter how slight) occurring in the workplace, on ACU property or during an ACU-sponsored event shall be reported in a prompt manner.
The procedures to follow in the event of an accident involving an ACU EMPLOYEE or ACU property are:
- Seek immediate medical attention if necessary. As with any accident, the well-being of the injured party is first priority. If immediate medical attention is needed, request as soon as possible by calling 911.
- If the employee's injury is not an emergency issue, but a doctor's visit is still required, the employee should go to Dr. J's Express Care located at 1634 State Highway 351 (map) in Abilene. The patient will be evaluated by the doctor on staff.
- Once appropriate medical attention has been provided, if necessary, the employee or any witness to the accident should immediately contact the employee's supervisor, Nelda Gilbreth (674-2363) or Ricky Brown, Safety Officer (439-1423), regarding the accident. An Employee Accident Report should be filled out and submitted at this time to Administrative Services at ACU Box 28106, Abilene, Texas 79699 or brought to Hardin Administration Building, room 210.
- If the accident is an auto accident involving ACU vehicles, the employee or witness should also immediately notify the ACU Police at 674-2305.
- Do not remove or clean the area of the accident area of any objects until notified by the Safety Officer.
The procedures to follow in the event of an accident involving VISITORS to campus are:
- Seek immediate medical attention if necessary. As with any accident, the well-being of the injured party is first priority. If immediate medical attention is needed, request as soon as possible by calling 911.
- Make the visitor as comfortable as possible until help arrives.
- Do not make any statements to the visitor regarding ACU's responsibility, fault, or willingness to pay for any damages.
- Once appropriate medical attention has been provided, if necessary, any witness to the accident should immediately contact Nelda Gilbreth (674-2363) and Ricky Brown (439-1423), regarding the accident. A Visitor Accident Report should be filled out and submitted at this time to Administrative Services at ACU Box 28106, Abilene, Texas 79699 or brought to Hardin Administration Building, room 210.
- Do not remove or clean the area of the accident area of any objects until notified by the Safety Officer.
The procedures to follow in the event of an accident involving a STUDENT are:
- Seek immediate medical attention if necessary. As with any accident, the well-being of the injured party is first priority. If immediate medical attention is needed, request as soon as possible by calling 911.
- Make the student as comfortable as possible until help arrives.
- Do not make any statements to the student regarding ACU's responsibility, fault, or willingness to pay for any damages.
- The RA, Residence Hall Director, Club Sponsor or other ACU representative, as applicable, should report the incident immediately to Nelda Gilbreth (674-2363) and Ricky Brown (439-1423) so an investigation can be conducted. A Student Accident Report should be filled out and sent to Nelda Gilbreth at Administrative Services at ACU Box 28106, Abilene, Texas 79699 or brought to Hardin Administration Building, room 210.
- Do not remove or clean the area of the accident area of any objects until notified by the Safety Officer.
