Listen to an interview with Mark Hamilton, General Editor, The Transforming Word Commentary
Dr. Gailyn Van Rheenen, graduate professor of Missions at Abilene Christian University, began teaching in 1986 after serving as a campus minister in Oklahoma for three years and as a missionary in East Africa for fourteen. Fluent in two African languages, Van Rheenen worked with a team to plant and encourage a church planting movement among the Kipsigis of Kenya. His book Missions: Biblical Foundations and Contemporary Strategies (Zondervan, 1996) is widely used in Christian schools as an introductory missions text, and an earlier text, Communicating Christ in Animistic Contexts (William Carey Library, 1991), prepares Christians to teach those who believe that spiritual beings and forces have power to control human affairs. Dr. Van Rheenen's Missiology Homepage (www.missiology.org ) has become a resource for local church leaders, field missionaries, and teachers of missions. He holds a B.A. in Bible from Harding University, M.S. in Missions from ACU, and DMiss. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He serves as an elder at the South 11th and Willis Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas.Books Available Mission Alive!
