Current Job Title: President, Founder
Current Place of Employment: BedHead Productions
City & State: Dallas, Texas
ACU undergraduate major or degree: Human Communications ('96)
Briefly describe your job: I started my own full service video production company (www.bedheadproductions.com)
What courses were beneficial in preparation for your career? Video Production I, Leadership (Dr. Lakey)
How did your career path lead you to your current position? I have been involved in video production to some extent since I graduated. It's just what I enjoy.
What does it take to be a Christian practitioner in your field? Being 'above reproach' in everything we do here. The videos we produce have to adhere to a standard...there are many types of videos we would never do.
What do you love about your job? I love the freedom to create great videos/DVD/media for clients and see how much they appreciate what we have created for them. It is a very satisfying feeling to really give them more than they asked for
What advice would you give to a student considering a career in your field? I believe that having a Human Communication degree has not slowed me down at all in a career that you would think would require a Mass Communication degree. In fact, all the classes I took dealt with people skills, leadership, small group communication, etc. All of these things play out in my career. How I communicate with my clients is much more important than if I understand how to read color bars. That stuff is easy to pick up. My advise would be to take some business classes so you understand business 101. Take bible electives to sharpen yourself in your faith and convictions. Take mass communication classes to learn technical aspects of video production. And for sure, take some human communication classes to know how to implement all of the above.
