Randy '80 and LaGay (Vanderveer '80) Pittenger
Hometown: Belton, Texas
"We are a legacy family."That’s how Randy described the Pittengers' ACU history. LaGay's parents attended in the 50s; Randy and LaGay met at ACU while students; all three of their children attended and married ACU grads. This spring, their twin granddaughters were born. In Randy's words, "Now that we have our children all married to ACU alums, we can start working on getting the grandchildren there." Randy serves on the Alumni Advisory Board, extending ACU's outreach with alumni. The couple works in the Belton community to recruit prospective students, and they also give consistently to ACU's Annual Fund.
Why they giveWhen asked why they give, Randy answered, "We regard ACU as a ministry that we support by recruiting students, active involvement in alumni activities, and by donations of money. We support the Annual Fund because we believe unrestricted gifts provide a base of support to the university. Our hope is that our gifts, added to many others, will help make ACU affordable to students who otherwise might be unable to attend."
Helping out at homeThe Pittengers also established an ACU scholarship through a local educational foundation. They provide scholarships to Belton High School graduates who attend ACU. The most recent award will pay $1,000 per year for four years. They have already helped with six scholarships and plan to continue this tradition for as long as possible. They support ACU by making it more feasible for students to attend, while also promoting ACU to local area students.
"There’s no better choice than ACU."Randy summed it up nicely: "We support ACU because of the difference it has made for our family. We recognize the value of a high quality academic education within a Christian environment. There’s no better choice than ACU."
Supporting ACU means supporting students who depend on scholarships to receive an education here. That's why the Office of Advancement exists: to strengthen, renew and build the relationships that help fund the mission, Promise and 21st-Century Vision of ACU, thereby helping more students experience the life-changing effects of the ACU experience.
