Dr. Robert D. "Bob" Hunter

Robert D. "Bob" Hunter's 20 years in the Texas State House cap a full life dedicated to public service. His many roles of service have included the U.S. Navy, the City of Abilene, Abilene Christian University (his alma mater), the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, and numerous civic and service organizations. In each facet of his life, Hunter has protected, preserved and promoted the interests of all Texans.

In the Texas House of Representatives, Hunter chaired the House Committee on International and Cultural Relations as well as the House Research organization.  He served as vice-chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee and was on the Government Reform Committee, as well as committees for several national legislative organizations.

Hunter spent 10 years as executive vice president of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT), an organization representing 40 institutions of higher learning. During his work with ICUT he coordinated passage of the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) program, helping needy Texas students attend private colleges and universities in the Lone Star State.

Bob's service to ACU has spanned 50 years. He has served ACU's students and alumni in many positions, including vice president. He is currently senior vice president emeritus and special assistant to Dr. Royce Money, president of ACU.

In Feb. 2006, ACU's Board of Trustees voted to name the newest campus building in honor of Bob and his wife, Shirley.  The Bob and Shirley Hunter Welcome Center will be the centerpiece of the east side of ACU's campus.
