Don Garrett ('77), director of Advancement, was a third-generation ACU student, following grandmother Doris (Woods '27) Garrett and parents Don C. ('49) and Peggy (Austin '51) Garrett with his three siblings.

Don oversees the Advancement officers and maintains relationships with a portfolio of alumni and friends of ACU. His position formerly known as director of major gifts.

Don first served ACU as an admissions counselor from 1977-1981, and again as assistant athletic director for development, 1987-1990. He also served on the Alumni Advisory Board from 1981-2000 and was its president from 1997-99. He returned again to ACU in December 2009 after nearly three years as director of major gifts at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

Don's wife, Carla, is associate principal of Abilene High School. He has three children, two stepchildren and four grandchildren. His primary hobby is serving as announcer for regional high school and college track meets, including the Texas Relays and the NCAA Division II national meets.
