There are many options when it comes to colleges and univeristies. Each have different characteristics that make them special. Students are going to spend four of the most important years of their lives in college, so it is important to help them know what to look for and what to avoid when looking at colleges.
What to look for in a college:
- Affiliation (Public, Private, etc...)
- Academic Environment
- Size
- Community/Location
- Housing
- Student Body
- Financial Aid
- Support Services
- Activities/Social Clubs
- Athletics
- Specialized Programs (Honors, Study Abroad, etc...)
Don't choose a college or university because:
- A boyfriend or girlfriend attends there
- Your child's friends are going there
- The tuition is low
- It's the one college you and your student have heard of
- It has the academic program they are looking for, so the campus atmosphere doesn't matter
- A computer college matching program told you this was their best choice
- The Viewbook was pretty
