At the heart of ACU's academic life is the Brown Library. Built in 1970 and renovated in 1995, the facility is named for Margaret and Herman Brown, who provided a major gift for construction through the Brown Foundation of Houston. A government depository, Brown Library is home to more than one million books, microforms, audiovisual materials, government documents and periodicals. It houses the Center for Restoration Studies, Learning Enhancement Center, Alpha Academic Services, McNair Scholars Program, Upward Bound and the Adams Center for Teaching Excellence. Named for legendary dean Walter H. Adams, the Adams Center is comprised of Faculty and Instructional Development, Academic Computing, insructional Technology and Distance Education at ACU, and it is located in the C.L. Kay Wing of the library.
