Real-World Experience

  • Cultural literature learning opportunities include Study Abroad programs in Oxford, Uruguay, London, Prague, Paris, Rome and Switzerland.
  • Students participate in creative writing opportunities such as the student-produced literature review, The Shinnery Review , the annual Black Tulip coffee house and other poetry readings.
  • Students have the opportunity to intern at a printing company in Abilene to learn editing and production.
  • The ACU Writing Center is a free service to all students, faculty and staff to assist with writing tasks of any kind. The Center is staffed by English majors, graduate students and faculty members.

Exceptional Degrees

  • Discover careers in writing (technical or creative), editing, publishing, teaching, law, library science, public relations, business and more.
  • Recent graduates include Rebecca Walton ('99), attending the University of North Texas for a master's in technical writing; Chad Huddleston ('04), instructor for English Language Institute in China; Clara Goodson ('04), middle school English teacher; and Amanda Helms ('04) studying creative writing for her master's at Columbia College in Chicago.

  • The Department of English faculty are among the most beloved on campus, regularly winning teaching awards and being honored by campus organizations as mentors and role models.
  • Students study under three published writers of fiction and one writer of published poetry.
