Real-World Experience

  • Students engage in research on education and present at numerous state and national conferences alongside faculty members.
  • Each student seeking certification will participate in an internship in the Abilene area prior to student teaching.
  • Students are regularly involved in mentoring and tutoring local students within the community as part of the service-learning component of their education.

Exceptional Degrees

  • More than 95 percent of students pass the state examination test on their first attempt.
  • A recent research project involving 877 four-year institutions placed ACU seventh in the nation in preparing teachers who went on to earn the doctorate in education.
  • Education is one of the largest programs at ACU, providing an extensive network of long-term working relationships and friendships in this field. More than 80 school districts from across Texas participate in a job fair for Abilene teachers each year.
  • There are approximately 650 students working toward teacher certification at ACU, and 100 new teachers produced every year. Prospective teachers can chose from 22 levels of teacher certification.

Faculty Who Make the Difference

  • Faculty author teaching materials, publish articles and papers, present research at state, regional and national conferences, serve as officers in state and national organizations and conduct numerous workshops and seminars for teachers an administrators.
  • The student:faculty ratio in the Department of
    Education is 17:1.
  • Professors are committed to the individual student and to
    forming supportive relationships with them.
