Ask a Counselor: Savannah Smith
My Faith Journey:
I grew up in a faith-filled home with parents who truly served me and showed me what it was like to live like Christ. I went to a small private high-school where faith was incorporated into the education process. I was a part of the youth group at church and had many influential spiritual mentors growing up, however, it wasn't until I came to ACU that my faith truly became my own and I was able to live it out the way I wanted. ACU helped mold and shape me into the woman I am today and I am so thankful for this special place that teaches students how to live a Godly life in a professional world.
I love life. I love people. I love competition. I played sports my entire life and got the opportunity to play basketball while at ACU. Being a student-athlete was a large role I played, but if it wasn't for ACU, I would not have been able to manage being both a student and an athlete while also participating in regular student activities. I graduated from ACU in 2014. I met my fiance, Justin, at ACU, and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2012. I am a fifth generation Wildcat and so this is a place that has greatly impacted my life over the years. I am proud to call ACU my home.
I love spending time with my friends and family, finding new crafting projects, online shopping, buying candles, and playing any type of sport. I have a competitive drive to win and compete in anything athletic. I have a passion for photography and love capturing life's precious moments through a lens.
My Favorite Professor:
Joyce Haley. Joyce is a professor in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department. She pushes each student to produce excellent work. She truly cares about her students and engages in their well-being and success. Joyce contributes life skills and wisdom as part of her teaching legacy.
My Favorite College Memory:
My favorite college memory was being able to compete in the Lonestar Conference Championship for Women's Basketball my junior year of college. The ACU community supported our team and really encouraged my teammates and myself. As I cut down part of the net, I realized how special ACU is and how proud I am to be a part of this community.
My favorite book:
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Purpose Drive Life by Rick Warren
My favorite Bible verses:
My favorite vacation destination:
Seaside, Florida. I love any place with a beach.
College Advice: If There Is One Thing You Should Not Pass Up In College:
Invest in people around you. College is the only time when you live with some of your best friends and everyone lives in the same city. Enjoy every second and make the most of the time with your friends and your professors. Take time to learn about someone whose culture and walk of life is different than your own because it will be over before you know it.
