AAIA Displaced Homemaker Scholarship: The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Displaced Homemaker Scholarships in the amount of $1000 each, to those men and women who would not otherwise be able to complete their educational goals due to family responsibilities. Funds may be used to assist with child care, transportation and basic living expenses, etc. in addition to educational costs. Disbursement is made during the first semester. Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Program: The program provides financial support and guidance to adults in the community who are in a variety of transitional situations. Charles R. Ford Scholarship: One scholarship awarded annually, available to an active member of the Jaycees who wishes to return to a college or university to complete his or her formal education. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, possess academic potential and leadership qualities, and show financial need. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500 sent directly to the recipient's college or university of choice. Kazimour Scholarship: Dr. Kim Kazimour and ANTSHE (Association of Nontraditional Students in Higher Education) sponsor the annual Kazimour Scholarship which gives three $500 Awards, two for undergraduate students (two-year and four-year) and one for a graduate student. The Non-Traditional Student Scholarship: These scholarships are available for a student returning to the classroom after some period of time in which his/her formal schooling was interrupted or a student who has had at least one year of college and is in need of financial assistance to pursue an undergraduate degree. The applicant must be a member of The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legion. The student must be enrolled in at least six hourse per semester or four hours per quarter. Royal Neighbors of America, Nontraditional Scholarships: RNA's "nontraditional" scholarship program provides educational support to members who don't fall into the usual college age range. Fifteen scholarships are open to persons age 23 and older. The Wal-Mart Higher REACH Scholarships: These are awarded to non-traditional students who have been employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least one year as of February 1. Career Advancement Scholarship: The BPW Foundation created the Career Advancement Scholarship Program to award financial assistance to disadvantaged women who want to further their education. EFWA(Accounting) Women in Transition (WIT) Scholarship: Eligible applicants will generally have few marketable job skills since they have functioned primarily in the role of a homemaker, or they do not possess a college degree. Applicants should be incoming or current freshmen, or those returning to school with a freshmen status. Jeannette Rankin Foundation: Awards grants to low-income women (over the age of 35) who have a vision of how their education will benefit themselves, their families, and their communities. The JRF grants are for $2,000 and will be awarded in the fall. Linda Lael Miller Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded to women who are 25 years or older, non-traditional students who have a difficult time finding scholarships for which they qualify. Soroptimist's Women's Opportunity Awards: These are cash awards that assist women entering or re-turning to the workforce in obtaining the education and skills training they need to improve their employment status. These awards are for women who are attending, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training, or an undergraduate degree program. Recipients may use for any expenses related to their educational pursuits. These include tuition and books, housing, child care and transportation. Talbot's Women's Scholarship Fund: Five women will each be awarded $10,000 scholarships and 50 women will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships. All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school. Only applicants seeking a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university are eligible to receive a $10,000 award. Business and Professional Women Foundation Career Advancement Scholarships: The BPW Foundation promotes equity for working women through education, information, and research. The foundation provides financial assistance to women seeking additional education to advance in their careers or re-enter the workforce, and also collects, conducts and analyzes research on issues affecting women in the workplace. Applicants must be women 25 years of age or older. They also must be officially accepted into an accredited program or course of study at a U.S. institution (includes institutions in Puerto Rice and the US Virgin Islands) and must be graduating within 12 to 24 months from the date of grant. The R.C. and Elizabeth Hoppe Memorial Scholarship Fund - Non-traditional Students: This fund was established by Martha Magee in 1997 in honor of her grandparents, R.C. and Elizabeth Hoppe, who were integral members of the early Abilene community.
