He Chose the Nails

He Chose the Nails
by MAX LUCADO ('77)

Linger on the hill of Calvary. Rub a finger on the timber and press the nail into your hand. Taste the tinge of cheap wine and feel the scrape of a thorn on your brow. Touch the velvet dirt, moist with the blood of God. Allow the tools of torture to tell their story. Listen as they tell you what God did to win your heart.

Just Like Jesus

Just Like Jesus
by MAX LUCADO ('77)

Where did we get this idea that we can't change? From whence come statements such as

  • "It's just my nature to worry"
  • "I'll always be pessimistic. I'm just that way"
  • "I can't help the way I react. I have a bad temper."

Such thoughts are not from God. He can no more leave a life unchanged than a mother can leave a tear untouched. His plan for you is nothing short of a new heart. If you were a car, God would want to control your engine. If you were a computer, God would claim the software and hard drive. If you were an airplane, he'd take his seat in the cockpit. But you are a person, so God wants to change your heart.

When Christ Comes

When Christ Comes
by MAX LUCADO ('77)

Would you like to discuss the end of time and feel better because of it? Could you use some reassuring words regarding the return of Christ? But how is that possible? How could the return of Christ bring comfort? Open graves. Occupied clouds. Sins revealed and evil unveiled. What's so comforting about that?
