Awards
James was named a winner of the 2011 Outstanding Staff Award for ACU's College of Education and Human Services. The College of Education and Human Services Outstanding Staff Award is presented to staff members who interact with colleagues and students in exemplary ways, who pursue intellectual creativity, and who promote collegiality. This award is presented to those whose faith is seen in their work - who serve students and colleagues in the name of Jesus.

James was nominated for the Outstanding Staff Award by several colleagues from outside his department. His servant heart can be seen in all aspects of his work. One nominator said, “James Scudder bends over backwards to make everyone else comfortable in whatever they are doing. He demonstrates innovation in the workplace by developing new ideas and sharing them other staff in the TRIO Programs.”

Another nominator said this:

“Recently, I needed a desk from the TRIO office and James offered to bring it over and move it into our office. Another time, I asked about a filing cabinet and he took care of rearranging things in his office so there would be a cabinet available for us.

"At our TRIO state conference in Austin, he was a model of Christian service as he looked for ways to help others – from mundane tasks of setting up computers to a more urgent and time-consuming task of taking a colleague to the emergency room. His collaborative spirit and servant heart were on display at the conference and I was very proud to let others know he was my coworker from Abilene Christian University. “

We are reminded by one of his nominators, “James truly, and in the most important way, looks like the Jesus I know and love. Christ's compassion, His patience, His forgiveness, His long-suffering, His dedication to His mission, His purity of heart, His humility, His empathy, His gentle correction, and His self-sacrificing love, are all on display in the character and personality of James Scudder.

"It's nice to have a colleague who is so deeply committed to excellence in his work - but at the end of the day, I am a better person for knowing James and learning from his example of Christ."
