Alpha Scholars Program has organized its tutoring services into three areas:
Liberal Arts
(courses that require verbal skills),
Math/Science, and
Study Skills. Each area is managed by a professional staff member who coordinates the schedules of peer tutors and assists with facilitating tutor training classes. Alpha tutoring is primarily concerned with helping students develop the skills and strategies to master course content. This is accomplished by tutors working with a large variety of courses ranging from the more technical courses such as bio-chemistry to philosophical courses such as Biblical studies. Tutors assist students to identify and implement study strategies that capitalize on the students' individual learning styles to improve learning efficiency in every class.
Alpha tutor training is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. Tutors who continue their employment with Alpha must complete requirements for Level I certification by the end of their first full year of employment. Alpha tutor training stresses principles of learning and the ethics of tutoring as tutors learn a variety of strategies to use as they work with individual students.
