Join juniors and seniors from across North America to discover the ancient wonders of the China (CSP), the Middle East(MESP) and Costa Rica (LASP) through a new, unique living/learning semester abroad.
China Studies Program
China. It is one of the world's oldest civilizations. It has been the crossroad of migration, trade and armies for centuries. A fifth of the earth's citizens live here. It is also undergoing tremendous change. With its wealth of resources, its rapid expansion as an industrial power, and the sheer size of the country's population and influence, China is a major force shaping the next century. Investigating its historic, religious, nationalistic and economic trends will help you understand and relate to this culture.
You will explore the complex past of one of the world's oldest cultures; experience the economic, political and social realities of contemporary China; and look ahead, to study China's challenges as a rapidly emerging world power.
You will develop a Christ-centered world view of China, its place in world events and the role of followers of Christ as you seek to understand and interact with China and its' people in the future.
Home bases for the program are in Xi'an at Xi'an Foreign Languages University and in Shanghai at Fudan University, leading universities in the country. Students spend a week in Beijing and visit Hong Kong at the beginning and end of the semester.
Middle Eastern Studies (MESP)
The Middle East Studies Program in Cairo, Egypt provides students with the opportunity to study Middle Eastern cultures, religions and conflicts from within this diverse and strategic region. Juniors and seniors from Christian colleges participate in interdisciplinary seminar classes, receive Arabic language instruction and serve as interns with various organizations in Cairo.
The MESP encourages and equips students to relate to the Muslim world in an informed and constructive manner.
Students also gain an appreciation of the Middle Eastern church and an understanding of the economic and political realities which influence the quest for peace in the Middle East. Travel to Israel/Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Turkey is included in the study experience
For MES, Students are housed either in the American University in Cairo dormitory or live within supervised apartments. Both locations are walking distance from the MESP Center.
MESP: Because students remain enrolled in their home institutions while participating in MESP, academic credit is awarded by the student's home institution.
Latin American Studies Program (LASP)
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities invites students to discover firsthand the richness of Latin culture through a unique living/learning semester abroad - the Latin American Studies Program (LASP) in San Jose, Costa Rica. You will earn credit from your own college through its "extension campus" in San Jose by enrolling in the LASP in either the fall or spring semester of your junior or senior year. Deepen your understanding of the lordship of Jesus Christ in this exciting international context. As a participant in LASP, you will examine your career goals, gain new insights about life and mission of the Central American church, and explore the economic and political realities of North America's relationship with its Latin neighbors.
Deadline for application:
Fall Semester early admissions - March 1 ; regular admissions - April 15
Spring Semester early admissions -September 1, regular admissions - October 15
Semester dates:
The fall semester of CCCU Programs begin in late August and ends in mid-December; the spring semester begins in mid-January and ends in early May.

Students interested in any of these upper level progams must complete the CCCU application. The applciation is then submitted with references to the Study Abroad Programs office. After review by both ACU and CCCU, students will be interviewed. Upon acceptance, students will be notified in writing.
