Hispanic Community Mental Health Awareness Event

On August 20, 2013, the ACU School of Social Work partnered with the Abilene Hispanic Leadership Council (HLC) to host a community event that focused on mental health awareness. The event was advertised on local Spanish-speaking radio stations, by fliers distributed in the neighborhood, and with a billboard.

Event speakers and exhibitors from Betty Hardwick Center, Abilene Behavioral Health, the local Alzheimer Association, Cancer Services Network, Hendrick Diabetes Center, Life Renovations, New Horizons, Inc., and Serenity House participated in this event, sharing information about their services, and ways the community can access them.

This collaborative event was sponsored by the ACU Hogg Scholar’s Program, which focuses on enhancing mental health services to the Spanish-speaking community across Texas.
