Sadie Dickinson ('15) | Social Work

From Graham, Texas

Sadie Dickinson is living the dream. Not only is she getting to do what she is passionate about, she travels all over the world doing it. Over the summer, Dickinson interned with Uncharted Waters sports ministry and was able to travel to Oklahoma, Washington, California and Costa Rica.                  

I was given a very unique opportunity this summer, and that was to combine the two things that I have a great passion for: my love for Christ and also my love for sports.

"I was given a very unique opportunity this summer, and that was to combine the two things that I have a great passion for: my love for Christ and also my love for sports," said Dickinson, who is a member of the ACU women's basketball team. "I was able to use the talents God has blessed me with in order to teach others about Him. These kinds of things can be done in our own backyard, so being given the chance to travel all across the country and to Costa Rica was just an added bonus."

Uncharted Waters is an organization that goes around the world setting up sports camps and preaching about God to children of all ages.

"Uncharted Waters is an equipping ministry that enhances the vision of the church by providing sports-related resources for the effective communication of the Gospel," Dickinson said. "Being a part of the UW atmosphere this summer shaped my life in such a positive way. It forced me to live by faith and to trust that the Lord knew exactly what He was doing."

The theme for this year's camps was "Beyond the Gold," built around a passage in 1 Corinthians 9:24-25: "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."

"I believe that this theme and verse tied in extremely well to the message we were trying to get across to the children participating in sports camp," Dickinson said. "We are meant to follow God. We do it for the love of the Lord, to glorify Him, and for something 'beyond the gold.' "
