Accelerated Masters of Science in Computer Science
Through a unique collaboration with Texas Tech University's Graduate Center in Abilene, the School of Information Technology and Computing at ACU offers qualified students an outstanding opportunity to complete an accelerated Masters of Science in Computer Science. Students earn both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from ACU and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Texas Tech, all in five years time! If you're already planning for graduate school, and you’re looking to accelerate your entry into the rapidly evolving field of computational technologies, this is the program for you.
Key Program Points:
- A total of 152 hours are completed for the two degrees combined, whereas completing the two degrees separately requires a total of 164 hours
- Students enroll as freshmen at ACU and pursue a Bachelors degree in Computer Science
- In the fall semester of the junior year, students declare their intent to pursue the accelerated Masters Degree program, and they work with their academic advisors to establish an appropriate course completion schedule
- In the spring semester of the junior year, the student takes the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), one year earlier than normal, applies for admission to the Graduate School at Texas Tech University, and seeks faculty recommendations
- If admitted, two of the advanced Computer Science electives ordinarily required for completion of the Bachelors degree at ACU will be waived, allowing students to enroll in two graduate Computer Science courses at Texas Tech - Abilene.
- Students effectively begin the graduate program one semester early.
- Specializations include programming languages, robotics, and artificial intelligence
Career Fields:
- Scientific applications programming in industries like aerospace, defense, medicine, biotechnology, and earth/environmental science
- Software and computer systems engineering, particularly in the areas of Internet and wireless communications, e-commerce, and information security
