Nursing Careers
This is an exciting time to enter the professional field of nursing. Nursing provides a career path for graduates who desire to make a significant impact in the lives of others. Nurses are employed in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, community health facilities, schools and businesses.
Growing Demand for RNs
The demand for RNs nationwide is expected to grow 22% over the next 10 years, and in Texas alone, the demand for nurses already exceeds supply by 22,000. This shortage of nurses provides many opportunities for employment after nursing licensure.
In 2010 the industry employed 2,737,400 registered nurses with an average salary of $67,720. By 2020, the needs of the aging Baby Boomer population and other factors are expected to add 712,000 more jobs for registered nurses.
