The Audio-Visual department is in the bottom floor of Brown Library on the campus of Abilene Christian University. The primarily educational and documentary videos can be borrowed by holders of ALCON member cards, but priority is given to professors and students at Abilene Christian University. The Audio-Visual department also has audio cassettes and other commonly-used media formats. Most of them are searchable in the ALCON system. The main function of the audio-visual department is to provide media formats for educational purposes, mainly to the network of ACU classrooms. Adjacent to the audio-visual circulating area are individual and group study and conference rooms, for use by ACU students and faculty. Also, there is a small gallery area where art is on exhibit most of the year. Inquiries about private exhibits are encouraged. There is no fee, but the library does not conduct sales of materials; artists' names will be distributed on request. Other art is on display throughout the building during all open hours.

Since the main purpose of the A-V department is to provide materials which are not easily available from other sources, we also make copies of archival tapes for purchase at a reasonable price. Large quantities of copying are sent to other copiers.

Some of the materials are held on reserve for building use only; as with other materials, an ALCON or ACU picture ID is required for usage. NO EQUIPMENT IS CHECKED OUT to leave the building. In all cases, the discretion of the library staff makes the final decision about borrowing, and picture ID must be present. There are overdue fines levied, as well as replacement for damaged materials. Audio-visual materials should be returned to the Audio-Visual department.
