Historic Preservation Plan Unit

One of the most important steps in the preservation of physical history is to develop and undertake a restoration project. The planning of the project is just as important as the project itself. Abilene Christian University's 1993 Field School Team (Under Construction) planned and performed a restoration project focused on the Mercantile in Cokedale, Colorado. The team totally restored the front steps of the building to look just as they did in the stores prime. The team used photographs to find out what the steps looked like originally and then set about restoring the structure. Once finished the steps look just as they once did and the physical past was saved. Using documentation methods any class can plan a presevation project, even if they cannot actually perform the restoration.
