How to Construct a Building from a Company Town
How to Construct a Building from a Company Town
- Give each student a uniform piece of cardboard or posterboard.
Suggested size would be between 1'x1' and 3'x3'. This depends on
the amount of display area you will have.
- Have the students mark of the area of their block where each
building will be constructed.
- Begin with the bottom layer of the foundation. Lay each sugar

icing. You may choice to use elmer's glue or rubber cement instead
of icing if the buildings are not to be eaten.
- Once the entire floorplan is glued down begin the vertical
aspects. Cementing each building block as you go.
- Make sure the students follow the blue prints when constructing
their building.
- Allow the walls to dry completely before attaching the roof or
any outer decor.
- After the walls are dry, attatch the roof using grahm crackers
or another flat substitute. To attatch the roof begin by shaping
the crackers over the building to assure a good fit. Glue the peak Ô

of the roof with icing or a stronger substance. Allow this to dry.
Then glue the sides of the roof to the tops of the walls. If extra
support is needed you may want to use a toothpick or dow rod inside
the roof to keep the sides extended.
- Once the roof is dry allow the students to decorate the outside
of the building with extra supplies. Ex: Dye coconut green to use
as grass, dye icing to use as paint, create a fence out of broken
toothpicks, use gumdrops as shrubs or place them on toothpicks as
trees, create a M&M sidewalk, or use licorice as trim.
