Mission

The mission of Abilene Christian University is to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world. This mission is achieved through:

  • exemplary teaching, offered by a faculty of Christian scholars, that inspires a commitment to learning;

  • significant research, grounded in the university's disciplines of study, that informs issues of importance to the academy, church, and society;
  • meaningful service to society, the academic disciplines, the university, and the church, expressed in various ways, by all segments of the Abilene Christian University community.

The mission of the Doctor of Ministry degree is to enhance the practice of ministry for persons who hold the M.Div. degree and have engaged in ministerial leadership.

Ministers who participate in the D.Min. program will be encouraged to demonstrate the following outcomes:

1.  D.Min. graduates will demonstrate an advanced comprehension of the biblical and theological foundations which inform Christian ministry.1.  Performance in the foundations course, in all course projects, the project/thesis seminar, and the project/thesis. Completion of the ATS Graduating Student Questionnaire (GSQ)

2.  D.Min. graduates will demonstrate an increased competance in the art of analytical thinking about ministry situations.

 

2.  Performance in the foundations course, the leadership course, course projects, the project/thesis seminar, and the project/thesis. Completion of the ATS GSQ.

3.  D.Min. graduates will demonstrate an advanced functioning as integrative reflective practitioners of ministry.

For some, the journey to victory can be pretty grueling. Such was the case for Danny Mercer, preaching minister for Friendswood Church of Christ near Houston. After suffering from a cancerous brain tumor, he beat the disease and completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at ACU in 2013.
