Accounting FAQs

As you prepare your application for the ACU Master of Accountancy program, you may have questions very similar to those of other applicants. Below are the answers to a list of commonly asked questions.

Admissions:

When is the ACU Master of Accountancy (MAcc) application deadline?
We make rolling admission decisions year round, so there is no specific deadline.

Do I need an undergraduate degree in accounting to be considered for ACU MAcc admission? 
No, we will consider those with undergraduate degrees in other fields, with the condition that they complete the necessary prerequisite undergraduate courses.

What are the prerequisites courses?

Managerial or Cost Accounting

Intermediate Accounting I and II

Income Tax - Individuals

Is there a minimum GPA or GMAT score required? 
We require an overall GPA of a 3.0 and a 3.0 GPA in all accounting courses taken. If an applicant does not have an undergraduate accounting degree, we require that they maintain a 3.0 GPA in all prerequisite accounting courses.

What is the average GMAT score and GPA of an admitted student? 
We do not require a GMAT score for candidates who take their undergraduate accounting courses at ACU. For applicants who take their accounting courses elsewhere, we expect a GMAT score in the 50th percentile or higher.

Can I provide a GRE or LSAT score instead of a GMAT score? 
We will accept GRE scores, but not LSAT scores.

What is an appropriate length for the purpose statement? 
Your purpose statement should be 1 to 1 ½ pages, double-spaced.
 

Program:

Is the MAcc program accredited? 
Yes. The MAcc program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

What is the program length? How many credit hours are required to complete the degree? 
The MAcc is a 30 credit hour program and can typically be completed in one year.

How many entry terms are offered per year?
We allow entry to the program three times a year: fall (August), spring (January), and summer (May).

Is there a part-time option? Is it possible to work while completing the program? 
Yes. It is possible to work full-time while completing the MAcc program on a part-time basis.

Are courses offered on-campus or online?
Of the 30 required hours, 24 hours are only offered on campus in Abilene, TX. The remaining 6 hours are elective courses and may be taken either online or on campus.

Can I receive credit for coursework completed at another university?
Students may receive credit for up to 6 hours of graduate level courses, pending faculty approval.

What is the program’s job placement rate?
The MAcc program typically maintains a 100% post-graduation job placement rate each semester.

What is the cost of the program? Are scholarships offered?
The cost of the program is $1,194, which equals $34,820 for the 30-hour program. There are scholarships opportunities through the College of Business Administration.
