The following are rough estimates of total costs based on the published tuition and fees of Abilene Christian University. These numbers are in no way binding and are only meant to provide a rough estimate of your total cost per semester at ACU.

Financial Aid

Satisfactory academic progress (3.0 GPA for graduate students) must be sustained to maintain and renew any financial aid program.†

*Deadlines represent risk dates--students applying after these dates may find that they are eligible but are not awarded aid due to limited funding.

 

Loans

Federal Stafford Loan, Subsidized

Eligibility:

Available to students with demonstrated need. Students must be enrolled at least part-time.

Amount:

Annual maximum $8,500; cumulative undergraduate / graduate $138,500 total.

Duration of Award:

Annually up to maximum allowed.

How to Apply:

Complete FAFSA annually; contact bank or ACU for student loan information.

Deadline:

To ensure timely payment, loan applications should be submitted prior to August 1 for fall semester.

Additional Information:

Interest is paid (subsidized) by the government while in school. Principal is deferred. Fixed interest rate adjusted annually on July 1.

Federal Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized

Eligibility:

Available to students with no demonstrated need.Students must be enrolled at least part-time.

Amount:

Annual maximum $12,000 with $8,500 subsidized loan or $20,500 without subsidized loan; cumulative undergraduate / graduate $138,500 total.

Duration of Award:

Annually up to maximum allowed.

How to Apply:

Complete FAFSA annually; contact bank or ACU for student loan information.

Deadline:

To ensure timely payment, loan applications should be submitted prior to August 1 for fall semester.

Additional Information:

Interest is paid by the borrower while in school. Principal and interest may be deferred at borrower's option. Fixed interest rate adjusted annually on July 1.

Third-Party Loans

Eligibility:

Available to students, demonstrated need not required.

Amount:

Cost of education per student minus other aid.

Duration of Award:

Depends on lender requirements.

Grants

Texas Equalization Grant (TEG)

Eligibility:

Available to students with demonstrated need; must be a Texas resident; must be enrolled full time; must not be enrolled in a theological degree program; and must not be a recipient of an athletics scholarship.

Amount:

Up to $1,000 per academic year, subject to availability of funds.

Duration of Award:

While pursuing a degree.

How to Apply:

Complete FAFSA annually.

Deadline:

To ensure timely payment, loan applications should be submitted prior to August 1 for fall semester.

Additional Information:

Non-repayable aid; satisfactory academic progress must be sustained to maintain the grant.

   

Scholarships

Departmental Scholarships

Eligibility:

Determined by academic department. Available for students not enrolled in a theological degree program.

Amount:

Varies by department.

Duration of Award:

Based on various factors.

How to Apply:

Complete the Scholarship Application Form, submit to the Graduate School; contact the department of interest.

Deadline:

March 1*

Graduate School of Theology Scholarships

Eligibility:

Available to students who are: 1) enrolled in a theological degree program; and 2) planning to do full-time ministry after graduation.

Amount:

The College of Biblical Studies awards scholarships which cover a substantial part of students' tuition.

Duration of Award:

Scholarships are awarded for a period of one academic year and may be renewed subsequent years while pursuing a degree.

Church Match Scholarships

Eligibilty:

Students must receive a matching scholarship from their home congregation and be enrolled full-time. The congregation must send the scholarship check with the completed application.

Amount:

The maximum amount eligible for the matching scholarship from ACU is $500 per student per academic year. This award may be combined with any other form of federal, state, or institutional aid.

Duration of Award:

For fall and spring semesters only; not for use during summer sessions.

How to Apply:

Congregation must complete the Church Match Scholarship application. The congregation must send the scholarship check with the completed application (available by contacting Student Financial Services)

Deadline:

June 15*

 

Work Programs

Graduate Assistantships

Eligibiltiy:

Graduate Assistants are chosen on a competitive basis. In order to receive an assistantship, a student must be unconditionally admitted into a graduate program and enrolled in at least 9 hours for a full assistantship, 6 hours for a half assistantship.

Amount:

Remuneration includes stipend and tuition reduction. See the Graduate Assistantship Page for more information.

Duration of Award:

Assistantships are awarded on a semester basis.

How to Apply:

Students apply through the Graduate School and are approved by the dean upon recommendation by the chair of the department for which they wish to work.

Deadline:

April 1*

Scholarships

Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Texas College Work-Study (CWS for Texas Residents)

Eligibility:

Available to students with demonstrated need and capability for part-time employment.

Amount:

Varies with need. Paid per hour. Usually minimum wage.

Duration of Award:

While pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

How to Apply:

Complete FAFSA annually.

Deadline:

March 1*

Employment on campus in various offices or departments. Jobs are placed through the university's CareerLink. This award is not a guarantee of a job.
