If I am a freshman, how do I get a book?June Passport - Vouchers are provided to first-year students and they can pick them up at the Campus Store.
August Passport – Students may request the book by emailing
fyp@acu.edu and a book will be mailed to them.
What if freshman parents want a copy of the book?
The book will be available for purchase in the campus store.
If I am a faculty member, can I get a copy of the book?
Faculty who teach any course (not just freshmen), may request a desk copy of the book from the First-Year Program.
What if I am not an ACU freshman, can I get a free copy of the book?This will depend on your leadership role with freshmen. The First-Year Program is providing copies to Passport/Welcome Week Student Directors and University Seminar Peer Leaders.
What criteria are used to select a book as the Freshman Common Reading?While the criteria may change some from year to year, the general guidelines in selecting the book are:
- The book needs to be accessible to high school graduates just beginning their college years (e.g., around 200 pages, with appropriate reading level).
- The book needs to be affordable (typically paperback).
- Preferably, the author should be living and available for a campus visit.
- The overall program will reflect a diversity of authors and disciplines.
- The book will motivate a large enough volunteer group of discussion leaders.
- The topic of the book should be current and relevant to people of faith.
- The topic of the book should address issues that can relate to first semester course material.
