Freshman Common Reading Creative Contest
In order to further enhance campus conversations about the book, the First-Year Program sponsors a Freshman Common Reading Creative Contest. Students will submit any creative work that is inspired by the story. This may be in the form of an essay, work of art, song, or film. The winner of the contest will receive a $500 scholarship, with second and third place receiving $250 each.
Contest Rules
- The contest is restricted to registered first-year students at Abilene Christian University for the fall semester.
- All submitted pieces are to be original works by the student, giving proper credit to any cited sources.
- Submissions are due at 3:00 p.m. on September 11 in the First-Year Program office, ADM 309.
- Submissions may be electronic; however they should utilize a widely recognized format.
- Submitted pieces:
- Essay - no longer than 3 pages double spaced in a 12 point font
- Work of art – capable of being carried by one person
- Song or film – no longer than five minutes in length
- By submitting an entry to the contest, entrant implicitly provides permission for reproduction and/or publication in part or in full.
- Each student may submit only one contest entry.
- Creative Contest winners will be announced during the 4:00 p.m. Q&A/Book signing event in the McCaleb Conference Center on Wednesday, September 23.
