Q & A with Dr. Lynette Sharp Penya
Originally from: Davenport, Iowa
Why you do what you do and why at ACU: I wanted to make a difference in people's lives and thought teaching was the best way to do that. I went to school at ACU and had a wonderful experience. I teach here hoping to touch others' lives in the way my life was touched. I also have the opportunity to integrate my faith into my teaching.
What you expect from students: My expectations for students come from I Cor. 10: 31: "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I expect students to invest in their own education. Whether it is an assigned reading, a quiz, an exam, or a paper, I expect them always to put forth their best effort.
What you want to give your students: I want to give my student the ability to recognize and use the talents and abilities God has blessed them with. I want to challenge them to do their best and encourage them all along the way.
Personal: I have been married almost 15 years and have two children, Hansen (6 years old) and Sophie (4 years old). I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, and traveling. I've taken several groups of students to study abroad in Uruguay and have traveled to Europe with my family.
Interests outside of classroom: (see above)
Research interests: My research interests are social influence and gender roles in religious contexts.
