Tom Bost

Dr. Thomas Bost believes ACU business graduates are distinguishing themselves in the most competitive markets in the world.  He should know.

Bost is capping a long and distinguished professional career by sharing his own knowledge with students at Pepperdine University’s School of Law.

“Teaching gives me an opportunity to influence future lawyers at a pivotal and stressful time of their lives,” Bost says.  “My prayer is that my influence will be one of the factors in their becoming skillful, proficient and ethical professionals who can well serve their clients, their communities and their God.

“Good lawyers and business people are honorable and trustworthy.  Ethical behavior is not only the right thing to do; it is the smart thing to do,” Bost says.  “Trust is an invaluable ‘lubricant’ for business transactions and professional activities.  With trust, expectations are better fulfilled, and mutual satisfaction is better assured.  But without honesty and forthright behavior, there is no trust.”

After earning a B.S. in accounting from ACU in 1964, Bost graduated at the top of his class at Vanderbilt School of Law in 1967.  He joined the Los Angeles office of Lathan and Watkins law firm in 1968, where he was partner from 1975 through 1999.

“I majored in accounting at ACU, with minors in Bible, English, and history,” Bost says.  “The opportunity for students majoring in business to take courses in the liberal arts is significant and marks the difference between merely excellent technical training, on the one hand, and the kind of broad education that can change the student and his or her world, on the other.”
