For Laura (Hampton '95) Self, today's media headlines of corporate scandal and accounting impropriety have special meaning.  Long before Enron and WorldCom fell from stock market grace, it was her job to help make sure practices in the company for which she works were ethical, accurate and in no way misrepresented.

They are lessons she learned well in ACU's College of Business Administration.

"Through case studies of ethical situations, we learned that every circumstance isn't always black and white, but you can never be too squeaky clean," she says.  "Those lessons had a big impact on me, and I've realized it more through the years."

Self works for Applied Materials in Austin, one of the world's largest suppliers of products and services for the semiconductor industry.  Because Applied Materials is a global corporation, Self sees ACU's increasing emphasis on international experiences as a positive one.  "I work for a global company and I see first-hand the value of a global perspective," she says.

University programs such as Study Abroad in Oxford, England, and Montevideo, Uruguay, coupled with an increased COBA emphasis on internships give graduates a jump start in the business world.

"A more well-rounded experience helps students discover what they really want to do," she says, "which gives graduates a competitive advantage in the workplace."
