"I learned how to think at ACU," Cornutt says, "how to process information, review implications and determine the most logical answer, direction or outcome. I also learned how to research -- a lost art for many in the world today. No matter what tasks you wind up doing in your career, all of them require the same thing -- doing your homework."
At age 24, Cornutt went to work for Ray L. Hunt, whom he describes as one of the finest business leaders in America. For most of his career, he's worked with Hunt's businesses, including Hunt Consolidated Inc., and related entities in oil, refining, finance, real estate and investment.
"I had the distinct pleasure of being around people of integrity, character and commitment to excellence," Cornutt says. "They were passionate about their work, had fun in the process and taught me standards from the old school -- planning, preparation and performance with no flash. The goal was to execute in a simpler, better, faster fashion to get things done."
Today, Cornutt is chairman and CEO of Argent Property Company, formed in 1997 in partnership with an affiliate of Hunt Realty Corp. in Dallas. But the bottom line for Cornutt is his wife, Linda (Core '70) and their three children. "I never could have done it without the constant love and support of my wife and family," he says.
