Special Education

Do you have a heart for teaching, loving, and learning from children with developmental disabilities? Teaching in special education calls you to serve with the passion and understanding of Christ, and to think creatively about interactive teaching styles that fit the needs of each child.

We've learned that children with special needs do best when they are engaged on all fronts: at school, at home and in the faith community. At ACU, we will prepare you to educate and support these students and their families - not only in the classroom but in all contexts of their lives.

Students interested in special education can certify in all levels (age 3 through grade 12), or a special education supplement can be added to any other certification.

For more information on this certification, or for questions concerning transfer credit, AP credit or CLEP credit, contact Francille Vesel, degree plan specialist, at veself@acu.edu or (325) 674-2128.

Across the nation, 41% of teachers have English language learners (ELLs) in their classrooms. ESL certification prepares teachers to support ELLs in learning English while studying other subjects. The ESL (English as a Second Language) supplement from ACU can be added to all middle school, high school and all-level certifications.
