What are my options?

There are two generalist programs of study leading to the MSSW

In addition to the ACU Graduate School requirements, applicants must submit a total of three letters of reference, a recent resume and a personal narrative detailing the applicant's interest in a career in social work.

Both programs combine classroom study with supervised internships in social service agencies and include a thesis suitable for dissemination. Our school is dedicated to social justice for the poor and vulnerable of the earth, evidence-based practice, honoring the gift of diversity and the integration of faith and social work. These four themes are integrated throughout the curriculum.

Standard Program

Two years (64 credit hours) of study leading to the MSSW in evidence-based social work. Applications are accepted from students with a bachelor's degree in any field with a broad liberal arts background. Courses in statistics, human biology and the social sciences are strongly recommended.

Advanced Standing Program

Get your BSSW and MSSW in 5 years. Applicants with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW) degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) are eligible for Advanced Standing in the MSSW program. Students admitted under this option are required to complete a total of 38 credit hours of prescribed study. Advanced Standing students may complete the MSSW degree in 12 months, including a required summer term and two semesters of prescribed course work and internships (see degree plan). In addition to the requirements for the Standard Program, students applying for Advanced Standing are required to submit a copy of their final field evaluation. At least one of the three references must be from a former social work professor.
