There are two programs of study leading to an MSSW: Standard and Advanced Standing
Applications are now being accepted (fall for Standard Program and summer for Advanced Standing). There is no spring admittance. All prospective students must first be
admitted to the ACU Graduate School. Visit their web site for information about requirements, deadlines and fees.
Candidates with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above are exempt from the requirement to submit GRE or MAT scores. Candidates with a GPA below 3.0 are still required to submit GRE or MAT exam scores. This applies to candidates seeking admission for summer 2008 or later.
Credit for Previous Academic Work and Life Experience
Students enter the MSSW program with a wide variety of undergraduate preparation and life experience. Some students enter the MSSW program and have taken identical or similar courses to those offered in the MSSW curriculum. To prevent students from repeating content mastered in other courses the School of Social Work offers students an opportunity to seek exemption from courses. Identical or similar courses must have been completed in the past five years and grades earned for those courses must be equivalent to a "B" or better.
Students interested in seeking an exemption should submit the following documents to the director of the MSSW program:
- course syllabi
- at least one example of work completed for the course, such as a paper or exam
- a narrative relating the course(s) to the MSSW curriculum objectives
The director of the MSSW program and course instructors will review the material to determine whether the requested course exemption is comparable. If approved, the student will be exempt from the course(s).
The program does not grant credit for life experience or previous work experience.
