The ACU Graduate Social Work Program is seeking accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for our Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree. The program was admitted to candidacy in October, 2007. The CSWE's review noted that our program is "uniquely and well conceptualized" and that our "committed and experienced faculty...present as a strong, cohesive group."
Admission to candidacy requires extensive documentation and planning and is an important step toward full accreditation, which will require a minimum of two more years. Initial accreditation automatically covers graduating classes of students admitted while the program is in candidacy.
For additional information on social work accreditation, visit the CSWE website. According to the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (ยง781.306.b.1), the "degree for licensure as a LBSW or LMSW must be from programs accredited or in candidacy by CSWE." Licensing requirements vary by state. If you are interested in practicing outside of Texas, check with the state licensing board in that state for specific requirements.
